Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
My practice is focused on individual therapy with adult women. My priority is to provide you with a private, non-judgmental space to explore your thoughts and feelings, and for us to develop a strong therapeutic relationship to help move you toward your goals. As an existential therapist, I try to balance an exploration of the past with a present focus to best assist you in examining your life questions, making meaning out of your experiences, and finding a sense of peace and purpose. I often integrate EMDR, TF-CBT, and/or mindfulness meditation into individual therapy should any of these tools have the potential to benefit you in your unique circumstance.
As a certified EMDR therapist, I am privileged to use this approach to assist you with recovering from the effects of trauma and painful life experiences. EMDR works directly with the brain to move traumatic memory toward an adaptive resolution. Specifically, the treatment can help you let go of various distorted trauma-related thoughts and beliefs that can negatively impact your mood and behavior. EMDR helps us integrate trauma-related memories with the rest of what we know about ourselves, others, and the world around us, so that trauma and painful life experiences can become simply part of our history and not so central to who we are, how we feel, and what we are able to do.
As a therapist trained in TF-CBT, I am able to assist women who have experienced trauma and wish to develop a trauma narrative. The treatment begins by us learning more about the experience and its impact, developing various coping tools, and then constructing a trauma narrative. Although the process can be arduous, many women experience a sense of empowerment after having completed their trauma narrative.

EMDR and TF-CBT are the only APA-approved treatments for PTSD/trauma.
